Funny how the spammers knew I was running WordPress even though it's a new install. I guess the spammer's scripts just scan for all comment scripts and hit whatever does not return a 404. Do you have <a href="http://www.bad-behavior.ioerror.us/" rel="nofollow">Bad Behavior</a> installed as well. Since I switched hosts and turned that back on, I've had one illegitimate comment to moderate, where I used to have a handful every few days. Of course, I also require people to sign-in to comment (though I may stop doing that, since it doesn't really seem to prevent comment Spam). Two of which were legit comments I had to flag as so, the rest went to Akismet. I was getting zero spam on Movable Type with the pseudo captcha plugin I was using, so I was a little irked by the sheer number of moderation I had to do, for one day no less. I'll see if Akismet learns as time goes by. Other than that, so far Wordpess is an absolute dream in comparison to Movable Type.
