No matter what the area of interest, somewhere there is a collection of aficionados (aka geeks) who take things too far.
Case in point. All I wanted was a LCD TV. Then I stumbled on this 266 page, 8,000 reply thread on the set I want. Wow, I don’t think I want it anymore.
The takeaway: Ignorance is bliss.

Did you look at Sony’s Bravias? I think they are the nicest.

Sony makes great sets no doubt, but they’re awfully expensive and from what I hear, if you have a problem Sony assumes it’s your fault.
The Sharp units I have been looking at are excellent save a banding problem due to a manufacturing flaw. Sharp has acknowledged the problem and has replaced units, where Sony in the same position has told customers they are SOL.
If I am dropping $2k on a set I expect the manufacturer to come over my house and lick my balls over the slightest defect.
