Google has rolled out an update to Gmail which includes live chat. They don’t have a button to purge all mail in the spam folder, but now they have chat — go feature creep!

If you’re wondering why anyone would stuff chat into a web-based email service (as I was), here’s your answer:

By default, all chats are logged by Google to be scoured and fed into an ad targetting algorithm. I am not comfortable with this, and have disabled chat logging from the get-go.

For a company who’s motto is “Don’t be evil” they’re really doing a lot of fucked up stuff lately.
