Since when did the term “long tail” take over the word “pop” (as in, “Adding red to the diagram really made the text pop“) as the office idiots word of choice (in the grand tradition of “paradigm” and “synergy“)?

Blame Bush. Seriously. I know the phrase comes from statistics but it started showing up in the news in reference to military logistics when we invaded Iraq, e.g. “miltary leaders are spending more time worrying about securing the long tail of supplies and fuel required to support a modern army than they are about that silly museum or post-war planning.” Accenture ninnies must’ve nicked it from CNN.
